I/14 (Kupelwieser Waltz)\nFazıl Say\, Black Earth\, Op. 8 (Kara Toprak)\nRobert Schumann\, Piano Quartet in E-flat major\, Op. 47 \nAbout the Artists \nRoberto Plano\nItalian pianist Roberto Plano has won prizes at the Cleveland\, Van Cliburn\, Honens\, and Axa Dublin International Piano Competitions and\, in 2018\, the American Prize in Piano (professional division). He has appeared with orchestras in Europe\, the U.K.\, Japan\, and the United States and performed with groups including the Takacs\, Cremona\, Fine Arts\, and St. Petersburg String Quartets and with soloists such as Ilya Grubert\, Enrico Bronzi\, and Giovanni Scaglione. He performs as a piano duo with his wife\, Paola Del Negro. He is on the faculties of Boston University and Indiana University and frequently offers master classes at other universities. \nIrina Muresano\nRomanian violinist Irina Muresanu is known for elegant and passionate performances that stretch the boundaries of classical music. A sought-after soloist and chamber musician who has appeared throughout the United States\, Canada\, Europe\, Asia\, and South Africa\, Ms. Muresanu is a compelling interpreter of contemporary music. Her concerts have frequently been cited by the Boston Globe as among the “Best of Classical Music Performances.” As a faculty member of the University of Maryland\, she has documented worldwide variations in violin technique\, and she is engaged in development of AI technology for use in violin instruction. Ms. Muresanu earned the Artist Diploma and Doctor in Musical Arts degrees from the New England Conservatory. She plays an 1849 Giuseppe Rocca violin with an Étienne Pajeot bow. \nJason Fisher\nJason Fisher is principal violist of the Boston Baroque and a founding member of Boston’s Grammy-nominated A Far Cry—a self-conducted chamber orchestra. He also performs with The English Concert\, the Handel and Haydn Society\, and the Seattle and Portland Baroque Orchestras. Mr. Fisher is a graduate of the Peabody Conservatory and the Longy School of Music. He is an instructor in the ChamberMusicLab of the Rivers School Conservatory. He plays on an English viola by Richard Duke\, 1768. \nRonald Lowry\nNeedham Concert Society artistic director Ronald Lowry is principal cellist of the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra and the Boston Ballet Orchestra\, and he performs frequently with the Boston Symphony. He has presented solo recitals in Jordan Hall\, at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum\, and throughout New England. DESCRIPTION:Tried and True\, and a Few Things New\nArtists\nRandall Hodgkinson\, piano\nPeter Zazofsky\, violin\nRonald Lowry\, cello \nPianist Randall Hodgkinson\, violinist Peter Zazofsky\, and cellist Ronald Lowry present Schumann’s masterpiece Trio in F major\, plus two rarely heard works\, Arthur Honegger’s Sonatine for violin and cello and Arno Babajanian’s exotic and powerful piano trio. \nProgram\nRobert Schumann\, Piano Trio No. 2 in F major\, Op. 80\nArthur Honegger\, Sonatine for Violin and Cello\, H.80\nArno Babajanian\, Piano Trio in F-sharp minor \nAbout the Artists \nWith a history of more than fifteen years\, the Orion Chamber Ensemble has developed a robust repertoire of widely known piano trios and lesser known gems. \nRandall Hodgkinson\nPianist Randall Hodgkinson has performed as a soloist with major orchestras in the United States and abroad. In addition to his work with the Orion Ensemble\, he is an artist member of the Boston Chamber Music Society. He also performs the four-hand and two-piano repertoire with his wife\, Leslie Amper. Mr. Hodgkinson is a faculty member of the New England Conservatory\, Wellesley College\, and the Longy School of Music of Bard College in Cambridge. As a young artist\, he won the International American Music Competition and the Tanglewood Music Center’s Cabot Award. \nPeter Zazofsky\nViolinist Peter Zazofsky has appeared as soloist with many great orchestras\, including the Boston Symphony\, the Berlin Philharmonic\, Amsterdam Concertgebouw\, and the Philadelphia Orchestra. He often is a featured soloist with Israeli orchestras. As first violinist of the Muir String Quartet\, Mr. Zazofsky is proud to have performed many complete cycles of the Beethoven quartets\, and to have promoted new works by American composers. Early in his career\, Mr. Zazofsky won top prizes in the Queen Elisabeth and Montreal International Competitions. He is a faculty member at Boston University and also teaches at New England Conservatory Preparatory School. \nRonald Lowry\nNeedham Concert Society artistic director Ronald Lowry—praised in the Boston Globe for “superb” musicianship—is principal cellist of the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra and the Boston Ballet Orchestra.
